Heirloom Heather started as a small- scale Flower Farm in 2021.

Our main farm is located in Pickering, Ontario with two additional expansions in the Durham Region.

This farm is dedicated to farming sustainably, using organic methods and stewardship of the land.

We preach low waste and try to be as eco-conscious as we can when making decisions about the farm. We are constantly learning about soil health, low tilling & regenerative farming.

We would like to acknowledge the City of Pickering resides on land within the Treaty and traditional territory of the Mississauga’s of Scugog Island First Nation and Williams Treaties signatories of the Mississauga and Chippewa Nations.

Why choose local?

Less Carbon

In North America, nearly 80% of florals sold are imported from other countries.

By not using imported flowers you are cutting down the emissions generated to get them here.

Supporting local means less emissions.

Supporting your local farmer

When you buy from local farms, you are not just supporting the local flower movement, but also a human being who has tended and cared for your flowers.

Grown Chemical-Free

We grow all our flowers pesticide & chemical free.

One of our top priorities is preserving the environment for our pollinators. We love the bees and most of those nasty chemicals have a big impact on them, along with being dangerous to ingest or touch.

Our eco-conscious practices

  • Soil blocking & Upcycling

    Soil blocking & Upcycling

By cutting down the amount of plastic we buy, we cut down the amount that would end up in a land fill.

Switching to soil blocking not only creates a healthier plant, but a healthier earth too.

We like to up-cycle old sushi containers, takeout trays, and mushroom containers to start plants in and rescue old blinds from the side of the road to turn into plant labels.

  • Compostable Packaging

We worked really hard this past year to make sure our bouquet are now 100% compostable.

We use ink made of plants, from spray-free blooms and shreddable Kraft so you can feel good that you can add your flowers to the compost bin after you’ve enjoyed them.

  • Worm Farm

Not only do we farm flowers but we also tend and care for a little worm farm. Their valuable casting make the compost tea that feed the flowers, and helps close the circle with bringing in compost.

  • Re-usable Farming Supports

Instead of buying in single use plastics, we have invested in long lasting metal trellis and plant supports.

  • Foam free florist

    Foam free designs

While designing event work and building installations we opt to use re-usable and bio-degradable mechanics. We do not use flower foam as it breaks down into micro-plastics.

  • Soil Health & Bio-Diversity

We decided the first year we wanted to focus on the health of the soil, using low-tillage and natural weed suppression. We very sparingly will use landscape fabric on path ways and hand-weed the rest.

We are no-spray, and like to observe the cycle of pests for a natural control. Focusing on companion planting and native plants helps attract the beneficials and helps keep the balance.
